Cyril Ramaphosa vowed a "new-era" Saturday after he was sworn in as president of South Africa at a-colourful-ceremony in the capital, as he looks to revitalise his push to revive the economy and fight corruption. Foreign heads of state from more than 40 countries were among 36,000-people who witnessed the event replete with pomp, military honours and an airforce flyover at a-rugby-stadium in Pretoria.

Cyril Ramaphosa, head of African National Congress, was sworn in for five-year term as South Africa's president on May-25 after being elected unopposed by Parliament following sixth-general-elections this month. Several heads of state, former heads of state and heads of international and regional-organisation attended the swearing in ceremony. It is the first-time that President's inauguration was open to public and not just invited guests.

South African lawmakers on Wednesday re-elected Cyril Ramaphosa as the nation's president, two weeks after the ruling ANC party returned to power in legislative elections. Ramaphosa was "duly elected president of the Republic of South Africa," chief justice Mogoeng Mogoeng told parliament after Ramaphosa was the only name nominated by lawmakers in Cape Town.
