Delhi Assembly Speaker Ram Niwas Goel granted bail on Rs 10,000 bond in 2015 rioting case

A Delhi-court sent Delhi Assembly-Speaker Ram Niwas Goel, his son Sumit Goel and three others to six-months imprisonment for trespassing a property in east Delhi's Vivek Vihar in 2015 and creating ruckus. Additional Chief-Metropolitan Magistrate Samar Vishal said the punishment needed to be "deterrent in this case" and sentenced them to six-months jail and also imposed a fine of Rs.1,000 on each of them.

Delhi Assembly Speaker Ram Niwas Goel has urged the Lokayukta, Justice (retired) Reva Khetrapal, to prosecute the petitioner on whose "baseless" complaints the Lokayukta office served notices to city lawmakers over alleged non-declaration of assets and liabilities. The office had served notices to members of Delhi Assembly on January 11, following a complaint by advocate and BJP functionary Vivek Garg.
