Extending its bearish run from Friday, BSE Sensex on Monday slumped over 600 points in morning trade while NSE Nifty slipped below 10,500. Weak global cues including a slump in Asian stocks and a-massive selloff on Wall Street are believed to be the key factors behind the plunge. Key Indian equity indices also suffered cuts due to rising trade tensions between US and China.

After correcting by around 6% in the last-one-month, Sensex surged by more than 2%. The Nifty too inched up by a similar quantum. This rise in the Sensex was led by stocks from the banking and pharmaceutical sectors. Among them, ICICI Bank Ltd, the top gainer on Sensex, was rewarded by the market for its stable September quarter earnings. Broader markets also performed well.
