Aviation Watchdog To Hold Meeting With Airlines Over Rising Ticket Prices

Aviation watchdog DGCA has called meeting to discuss with airlines the upward spiral in airfares as Jet-Airways continues to ground its aircraft and cancel a-significant-number of flights, a-government-official said. According to official, after DGCA grounded all 12 of SpiceJet's 737 Max aircraft on March 13 following the Ethiopian Airlines crash that killed 157 people, the problem of rising airfares in Indian market has "aggravated".

DGCA may bar Jet Airways from accepting advance bookings

Aviation regulator DGCA may bar beleaguered carrier Jet Airways from taking advance bookings beyond a particular period amid reduced capacity and massive flight cancellations, an official said. The official also said the private airline has been flying only 61 of the 116 planes it has in the fleet, forcing it to cancel as much as 45 percent of total flights per day.

In India, budget carriers IndiGo and GoAir use the P&W engines to power their A320neo aircraft. The Centre's decision comes after IndiGo's Kolkata-bound flight had to return to Chennai on January 3, following a mid-air engine failure.
