Telecom department to begin 5G trials in 100 days: Ravi Shankar

The new telecom minister Ravi Shankar Prasad has set a deadline of 100-days to begin 5G trials in India, and said that the next spectrum auctions, which will include 5G-airwaves, would be held within this calendar year. Taking charge of the ministry of communications, Prasad, said he will take a serious look into the issue of Huawei being allowed to participate in the 5G-trials.

Blocking of apps like WhatsApp under consideration in India

Following the highly disappointing-cases of lynching and other mishaps which took-place due to the rumours-spread on Whatsapp, the Department-of-Telecom (DoT) is seeking views and opinions of other telecom-operators related to blocking the mobile-messaging platform under Section 69A of the IT act. In fact, the DoT is not just considering blocking WhatsApp but in the radar are other socialising-mobile-apps such as Facebook, Instagram and Telegram.

Vodafone, Idea pay Rs. 7,249 crore under protest for merger

Idea Cellular Ltd and Vodafone India Ltd have joint payment of 7,248.78 crore under protest to department of telecom for merger their mobile business. Idea Cellular and Vodafone have made payment under protest as demanded by DoT for merger. 3,926.34 crore have been paid in cash and bank guarantee of 3,322.44 crore have been furnished, Idea Cellular official confirmed the development.
