Gold price increase to dampen Indian festive purchases: WGC

Indian gold demand in 2018 is expected to fall from the previous year as a rally in local prices to five-year highs is likely to dent purchases during key festivals in the December quarter, the World Gold Council (WGC) said. A fall in demand from the worlds second-biggest bullion buyer could weigh on global prices that are already down 6.5% so far this year.

Amritsar train accident: Locals continue protest, demand action against driver

The situation remained tense Sunday as locals continued with their sit-in at Joda Patak where 59 Dussehra revellers were mowed down by a train. The locals had started protesting Saturday, raising slogans against the state government and demanding action against the train's driver, a day after the accident. Police said locals are sitting on railway tracks and do not want to leave.
