"Must Obey Laws": Piyush Goyal Clarifies "No Big Favour" Remark On Amazon

A day after terming Amazon's decision to invest $1 billion in India as "no big favour", Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal today said that he was simply stressing on the need for e-commerce giants to not make things difficult for small traders in the country. Today's comments by Piyush Goyal were seen as a clarification of his earlier assertion.

Draft norms ask e-commerce firms to maintain level playing field

The consumer affairs ministry has issued draft e-commerce guidelines for consumer protection 2019 that calls for e-commerce entities to maintain a level-playing field and prohibit influencing the price of goods and services directly or indirectly. The draft norms mention that an e-commerce company doing business in the country shall be a registered legal entity under the laws of India.

Amazon India Removes Numerous Products As New E-Commerce Rules Bite

E-commerce rules that went into effect in India caused widespread disruption for Amazon.com, forcing it to take down an array of items from its India website including Echo speakers, batteries and floor cleaners. Two sources with direct knowledge of matter said products began to disappear from the Amazon India site late on Thursday as it began complying with revised norms before a midnight deadline.
