Election Body Declines To Share Details On PM Modi's Poll Code Violations

The Election Commission has declined to share details on alleged poll code violations by PM Modi and other politicians during the Lok Sabha election campaign and subsequent clean chits given to them, saying compilation of the information would disproportionately divert its resources. The Commission gave its decision on as many complaints filed by the Congress against PM Modi, alleging violation of the model code.

After BJP chief Amit Shah's first roadshow in Kolkata ended with violence, arson and police-lathicharge, a party delegation, including Union-ministers Nirmala Sitharaman and Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, rushed to EC, seeking its immediate intervention to ensure free and fair polls in West Bengal. Union-minister Piyush Goyal urged the EC to take strong action against the West Bengal government for the violence during Mr Shah's roadshow.
BJP Urges Election Body To Bar Mamata Banerjee From Poll Campaigning

The BJP on Tuesday urged the Election Commission to bar West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee from campaigning in the state and alleged that "constitutional machinery" has collapsed there. Mr Naqvi accused Ms Banerjee of "complicity" in violence allegedly aimed at the BJP, claiming that she has been "provoking" her Trinamool Congress workers to attack the party's functionaries.
