Google fires 5th employee for raising labour rights issue

The internal activism at Google is only growing it seems as the company has fired another employee for sending browser pop-ups about the labour rights at the company. She becomes the fifth staffer fired for being involved in internal activism, reports The Verge. Spiers was tasked with sending web browser notifications as pop-ups within the company.

Zomato axes around 100 employees in cost-cutting drive

Gurugram-based online food delivery startup Zomato has confirmed it fired 70-100 employees from its customer support team at its Gurugram office, reportedly as a cost-cutting measure. It reportedly spends about Rs.4-5 per order on customer support and after-sales services per food order. However, Zomato said the firings were carried out due to redundancies in its current customer support workforce.

International Business Machines Corp. has fired as many as 100,000 employees in the last few years in an effort to boost its appeal to millennials and make it appear to be as "cool" and "trendy" as Amazon and Google, according to a deposition from a former vice president in an ongoing age discrimination lawsuit.
