Over 65% Turnout In Bengal Till 3 Pm Amid Sporadic Violence

Stray incidents of violence marred the second phase of polling in West Bengal on Thursday which saw 76.07% of the 4938346 electorate exercising their franchise in three seats where voting took place. The highest polling of 82.76% was recorded in Jalpaiguri (SC) seat, 73.31% in Raigunj seat and 72.14% in Darjeeling seat, state chief electoral officer Ariz Aftab said.

Revert to ballots: Chandrababu Naidu to EC two days after Andhra polls

Two-days after Andhra Pradesh voted to elect its new assembly, CM Chandrababu Naidu met CEC Sunil Arora with a letter complaining that poll body "miserably failed to live up to the spirit of the constitutional-duty" in the state. He demanded that Election Commission should revert to the system of recording votes through ballot papers and stop the use of electronic voting machines in polls.

CIC rules EVMs are 'information' under RTI Act

An Electronic Voting Machine is "information" under Right to Information Act and can be demanded by an-applicant from Election-Commission of India on-a-payment of Rs.10, Central Information Commission has ruled. This implies Election-Commission has to respond to an-RTI-application seeking the EVM either by providing it or refusing it under exemption clauses in Act. But that also can be contested before CIC, highest-adjudicating-authority in RTI matters.
