Farm sector likely to get Rs 25 lakh-crore budget boost

The central government has targeted spending Rs.25L crore on the rural and farm economy over the next five years, which will reflect in allocations to be made in these sectors in the annual Budget on July 5, an official said. In the previous term of the Modi government, farmers' earnings had been hit by low agricultural prices, leading to farm-loan waivers by several states.

From the largest State Bank of India to the most valuable HDFC Bank have their share of repayment woes, sown in the rural hinterland. Farm-loan waivers could not repair damages that better infrastructure definitely could.
