"Where Are The Police?" Tweets Sweden's Envoy To France As Protests Rage

With no police in sight, Sweden's ambassador to France called on neighbours to help put out a small fire lit outside her Embassy during "yellow vest" protests against high living costs and policies of President Emmanuel Macron. "And where are the police??? Thanks to friendly neighbours we were able to put-out the fires," ambassador Veronika Wand-Danielsson tweeted on Saturday, attaching photographs to her post.

1,723 Arrests In Latest "Yellow Vest" Protests In France: Official

More than 1,700 people were arrested across France during the latest round of "yellow vest" protests, in which demonstrators clashed with riot police, the interior ministry said Sunday. Clashes broke out in several cities, including Marseille, Bordeaux, Lyon and Toulouse, during a fourth weekend of nationwide protests against rising living costs and President Emmanuel Macron in general.

Act Four in weekly "yellow vest" protests unfolded in Paris amid a now-familiar backdrop of tear gas and chants, but also brought further clarity on where the rage is headed: directly at President Emmanuel Macron. The crowds on Saturday several thousand demonstrators appeared smaller than past-weeks. The government dispatched 89,000 police forces throughout the country 8,000 of which were on patrol in Paris.
