Food testing labs to soon follow same standards

India's food regulator will soon notify referral-laboratories that will help develop standards for procedures and methods to be followed for testing food in India, as-per-new regulations published recently. These referral laboratories will also evaluate the performance of other labs. One set of laboratories has been created known as reference laboratories. They basically ensure that testing across laboratories is done using the same standard methods.

How to file complaint if you find insects in food at restaurant?

If one finds insects or other contaminants in their food while eating outside, they can lodge a complaint on the citizen's portal on Food Safety Standards Authority India's website along with photo proof. Another approach is to call FSSAI's toll-free number 1-800-112-100. "Public should come forward and complain about such incidents so that businesses face the consequences," FSSAI officials said.

FSSAI orders Swiggy, Zomato to delist non-licenced restaurants

In the wake of complaints regarding sub-standard food, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has asked 10 food apps including Swiggy, Zomato and Foodpanda to de-list non-licensed eateries from their platforms. FSSAI has asked the apps to submit an action-taken report by the month's end. FSSAI had operationalised guidelines for e-Commerce Food Business Operators in February.
