Ayodhya Case: Top Court To Scrutinize Mediation Process, Pass Order Today

The Supreme Court will examine a report on the "progress of mediation" in the Ayodhya land dispute case today. A five-judge Constitution bench, headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi, had on July 11 sought a report on the issue and said that a day-to-day hearing may commence from July 25 if the court decides to conclude the mediation proceedings.

Three days of extremely high-rainfall may have been the biggest factor in triggering the massive floods in Assam that that have already affected 57-lakh-people, forced 1.51-lakh to relief camps and left 30-people dead this month. Rainfall data shared by the Regional Meteorological Centre in Guwahati with NDTV reveals that Assam received 95% more rain than normal on July-13 and 127% more on July 14.

Monsoon-rains in the country were 20% below average in the week-ending, as rainfall was scanty over the central, western and southern-parts, the IMD said, raising concerns over the output of summer-sown crops. Monsoon rains are crucial for farm output and economic-growth, as about 55% of India's arable land is rain-fed, and agriculture forms about 15% of a $2.5-trillion-economy that is the third-biggest in Asia.
