ISRO Teams Up With Russian Company To Train Astronauts For Gaganyaan

The Indian Space Research Organisation has signed a contract with a Russian company for selection support, medical examination and space training of Indian astronauts for the country's proposed maiden manned space mission ''Gaganyaan''. The contract was signed by Glavkosmos' first Deputy Director General Natalia Lokteva and Director of Human Space Flight Centre (HSFC) of ISRO S Unnikrishnan Nair on June 27.

Gaganyaan Astronauts Likely To Be Pilots, Hints ISRO

The astronauts on the human space mission ''Gaganyaan'' will mostly be pilots, hinted Indian Space Research Organisation scientists on Friday. "We are looking for people with sufficient flying experience," said an ISRO scientist. ISRO Chairman K Sivan said the Indian Air Force and other agencies will play a major role during the selection of astronauts for the human space mission project.

India's first human space flight likely to have woman on board

India's first human space flight, scheduled to be launched sometime in the second half of 2021, will, most likely, have at least one woman astronaut on board. Chairman of Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) K Sivan told The Indian Express that women candidates would be actively considered, although he would not like to pre-judge the selection process which was still to start.
