Goa Assembly speaker Pramod Sawant was sworn in as the state's new CM. Sawant, 45, is a BJP-leader. He will succeed Manohar Parrikar, who died after battling pancreatic-cancer and was cremated with state honours in Panjim Monday evening. He was 63. Goa Forward Party chief Vijai Sardesai and Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party MLA Sudin Dhavalikar were sworn in as state's deputy CMs in coalition government.

Goa CM asks BJP workers to refrain from presenting him with bouquets

After being sworn-in as the Goa CM, Pramod Sawant asked his friends and BJP workers to refrain from presenting him with bouquets in view of state-mourning declared as a-mark-of respect to late CM Manohar Parrikar whom he described as his "idol and mentor". 63-year-old Parrikar died on Sunday evening after prolonged battle against cancer and seven-day state mourning in Goa was declared next-day.

Manohar health deteriorates, BJP MLAs asked not to leave Goa

The ruling BJP has asked Goa BJP MLAs to not leave the state amid reports that Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar's health is deteriorating. The party's diktat came after Goa Congress unit wrote to Governor Mridula Sinha to stake a claim and form a new government. BJP's ally Goa Forward Party (GFP) may also "rethink" its support strategy in the wake of Parrikar's illness.
