Goa Approves Amendment Allowing Women In Industries To Work Night Shifts

The Goa cabinet approved an amendment to the Factories-Act which will allow industries to employ women for night-shifts. Deputy CM Vijai Sardesai said amendment-bill would be tabled in the upcoming-monsoon-session of the Legislative-Assembly. Once the amendment is passed by the House, women will be able to work from 7-pm to 6-am only if an employer takes prior approval of Chief-Inspector of Factories and Boilers.

Mridula Sinha, the Governor of Goa, has summoned Assembly-Session on Tuesday, June-4. The special session of the Legislative Assembly will be meeting in the assembly hall at 11.30 am. According to reports, new-speaker of Goa-Assembly could be elected in the special session. The post of Assembly-Speaker has been lying vacant since Pramod Sawant left the post to take charge as the state chief minister.

Goa Government Extends Retirement Age Of Doctors From 60 To 62

The Goa government has extended the retirement age for doctors working in its institutions from 60 to 62, a-senior-official said. A government employees' outfit has, however, opposed the move. "The order was issued recently by under-secretary of Labour-department. Doctors working in ESI hospitals, Goa Medical College and Hospital besides various other government institutions would benefit from the order," said state Labour Commissioner Jayant Tari.
