Google faces a possible investigation by Irish data privacy regulators related to reports that contractors had been able to listen to audio of users of its digital assistant technology. The Irish regulator is Google's main privacy watchdog in the EU and could, if serious violations are found, levy hefty fines under the bloc's new data protection rules.

Google employees listen to customers' audio recordings on Google Home smart speakers, the technology giant has admitted. Language experts are employed to analyse "snippets" of recordings made by users, which Google claims helps improve its voice recognition technology. This is then used to develop the Google Assistant artificial intelligence system, which is used in its Google Home smart speakers and Android smartphones.

Google has announced that it will be rolling-out Google Assistant integration into Android Messages "over the coming months". The company has claimed that the Messaging app within an-Android-device would use AI (artificial intelligence) to offer suggestion chips relevant to conversation without reading the actual text. To highlight more on how the feature will feel like, Google gave an simple example in its blog post.
