Heavy rain in Kerala for next 5 days; Tamil Nadu, Karnataka on alert

Kerala, ravaged by the south-west monsoon in August, is bracing for more rains with a low-pressure area likely to form over the Southeast Arabian sea, as the state government stepped up disaster preparedness. Kerala will receive heavy to very heavy rainfall for the next five-days and a district wise warning has been issued in this regard, said K Santosh, director of Kerala's meteorological department.

Indian Meteorological Department issues alert for Tamil Nadu, Kerala

The Indian Meteorological Department’s National Weather Forecasting Centre has issued a red alert to Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Puducherry, warning of “heavy to very heavy rain with extremely heavy falls at isolated places” on October 7 due to the severe storm in the Arabian Sea. A low-pressure area is very likely to form over Southeast Arabian Sea.

Kerala seeks Tamil Nadu help for dam ops

The Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA) has decided to request the Central Water Commission to issue directions to Tamil Nadu to open the shutters of all dams under their control in the state in advance given the heavy rainfall forecast by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD). The state started releasing waters from some of the dams as rains intensified in their catchment areas.
