National Aids Research Institute to drop focus on HIV, undergo name change

Nearly three decades after it was established, NARI is set to drop its focus on research into the Acquired Immuno-deficiency Syndrome (Aids) and also undergo a name change in the coming months. NARI director Dr Samiran Panda said in an interview that this was among the issues discussed during the February-8 visit by ICMR director Dr Balram Bhargava to the institute at Bhosari, Pune.
Pregnant Woman Given HIV-Infected Blood In Tamil Nadu Govt Hospital

A 23-year-old pregnant woman has tested HIV+ after infected blood was transfused into her, to treat her anaemia, at a government hospital in Tamil Nadu. The negligence came to light after the blood donor informed the authorities that he had tested positive for HIV. The services of a lab technician, a counsellor and the blood bank's medical officer were terminated.
