Rights groups reacted in horror Wednesday to the latest hardline move from the resource-rich nation on Borneo, which practises a stricter brand of Islam than its neighbours Malaysia and Indonesia.

China is in league of its own on human rights violations: US

The US State-Department slammed human-rights-violations in China, saying the sort of abuses it had inflicted on its Muslim-minorities had not been seen "since the 1930s." US Secretary of State Pompeo highlighted abuses in Iran, South-Sudan, Nicaragua and China in department's annual "Country Reports on Human Rights Practices," but told reporters that China was "in a league of its own when it comes to human-rights-violations."

Top Court To Hear Plea Seeking Security Forces' Human Rights' Protection

The SC agreed to examine a plea seeking protection of human rights of security-force-personnel, who come under attack by mobs while performing their duties. A bench comprising Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justice Sanjiv Khanna also issued notices to the Union of India, Ministry of Defence, Jammu and Kashmir and NHRC on the plea filed by 19-year-old Preeti Kedar Gokhale and 20-year-old Kajal Mishra.
