IIT Madras Develops System To Prevent Stampedes During Kumbh, Hajj

IIT Madras researchers have developed an algorithm that can help manage crowds using minimal manpower, and prevent stampedes at crowded gatherings like Kumbh and Hajj. Researchers said that crowd movement resembles a fluid, and laws of fluid dynamics can be used to place personnel to check for disturbances. The computer simulation can also help design safe evacuation procedures, researchers added.
Woman PhD scholar found hanging in IIT-Madras hostel room

A 25-year-old woman research scholar from Jharkhand was found hanging in her hostel room in IIT Madras late on Tuesday, police said on Wednesday. According to police sources, the student has been identified as Rajana Kumari who had joined IIT Madras in 2017. They also said Ranjana did not come out of her hostel room on December 31 for New Year celebrations.
IIT placements: Over 3000 job offers in three days

Within three days of the placement season, companies have offered over 3,000 jobs to graduating students of the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), a 30% growth from last year. IIT Madras on Tuesday said students bagged 680 jobs in the first three days of the placement season, 30% more than last year. Along with pre-placement offers, the number of offers were 816 at IIT-Madras.
