Income tax notices without a unique ID will soon be treated invalid

The Income Tax department has now made it mandatory for all its officers to not issue any notice, order, summons or any other correspondence without a computer-generated Document Identification Number (DIN). In a recent press release, the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) informed of this move and is hoped to curb the problem of unauthorized notices to individuals and companies.

I-T raids top Mumbai realtor in Rs 700 crore tax evasion case

The Income Tax Department carried out raids at 40 premises in Mumbai and Thane belonging to a leading Mumbai realtor for a tax evasion case of around Rs.700-crore, official sources said. The raids, which started five days ago, are still continuing and the IT sleuths have unearthed various incriminating evidences pertaining to the tax evasion by the group whose identity has not been revealed.

The Income Tax Department denied charges of harassment during their probe against Cafe Coffee Day promoter VG Siddhartha and official sources pointed out that the signatures of the entrepreneur available with them were different from those on a letter being widely published on the social media. They said the businessman had admitted holding stash income after raids were conducted against him and his concerns.
