"Takes Courage": Captain Tania Shergill On Joining Army, Leading Parade

A person's stature doesn't matter much in the Army, it takes "jigra" or courage, said Captain Tania Shergill, the tall woman officer who will lead a contingent at the Republic Day parade, told NDTV in an interview today. Captain Shergill, a fourth generation officer in the family, says her affinity towards the Army developed at an early age.
Army provides 1 lakh kit to jawans deployed around Siachen glacier

Indian Army is now providing jawans a personal kit worth around Rs 1 lakh each during their deployment on the world's highest battlefield Siachen glacier to fight harsh weather-conditions. The kit includes equipment worth around Rs 1.5 lakhs for survival and moving around the Siachen glacier during the deployment. Avalanches are frequent occurrences in the glacier which receives very heavy snowfall during the year.
Army Rescues 1,500 Tourists Stranded Due To Snowfall In Sikkim

The Indian Army has rescued about 1,500 tourists who were stranded in Nathu La in East Sikkim, an official release said on Saturday. Some 1,500 to 1,700 tourists travelling in about 300 vehicles from Gangtok got stranded at various stretches of the Jawaharlal Nehru Road between 13th Mile and Nathu La on Friday evening due to heavy snowfall, it said.
