Rupee snaps 6-day rally, settles 10 paise down at 70.80

Snapping its six-day winning run, rupee Wednesday settled 10 paise lower at 70.80 against US dollar amid rising crude-prices and heavy foreign fund outflows. Forex traders said dollar buying by oil-importers and strengthening of greenback against major-currencies overseas weighed on domestic-unit. At the Interbank Foreign Exchange market, rupee opened on strong footing at 70.48 and rose further to touch the day's high of 70.40.

Rupee trades marginally lower at 70.46 per dollar

The Indian rupee is trading marginally lower at 70.46/dollar on Friday versus Thursday's close 70.41. Rupee consolidated in a-narrow-range for third-successive-session despite volatility in global crude-oil-prices and weakness in dollar against its major-crosses. In the last-couple of weeks crude has rallied over 20% which led to marginal weakness in rupee but broad-weakness in dollar has capped sharp depreciation of rupee, said Motilal Oswal.

RBI scales down printing of Rs 2,000 note to minimum: Govt source

The printing of Rs.2000 banknote, introduced post-demonetisation in November 2016, has been reduced to "minimum" by Reserve Bank, a top finance ministry official said. Soon after sudden decision to ban old Rs.500/1000 currency notes by the government, the Reserve Bank had come out with the Rs.2000 currency note along with a new look Rs.500 note as part of its massive remonetisation exercise.
