I&B announces 25% hike in print media advertisements

The Information and Broadcasting (I&B) Ministry increased the rates at which the government releases advertisements to the print media by 25%. "The decision will be of great benefit especially to the medium and small newspapers including a large number of such papers in regional and vernacular languages," the ministry said. The rates were last revised in 2013.

Enough mechanisms to check TV content, Rathore assures Lok Sabha

Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Rajyavardhan Rathore assured Lok Sabha that there are enough checks and safeguards for content on television, including news. Rathore said that there are fora, including Advertising Standards Council of India for advertisements, Broadcasting Content Complaints Council for TV content, News Broadcasting Standards Authority for TV news, an-Inter-Ministerial Council to address any complaints regarding content on TV.

I&B said don't use 'Dalit', Press Council chairman says not feasible

Disagreeing with the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting's advisory that the media should stop using the word Dalit and replace it with Scheduled Caste, the Press Council of India has decided it will not issue a blanket ban on the use of the word Dalit. Press Council of India chairman Justice (retd) C K Prasad said "absolute prohibition is not advisable", not even "feasible".
