Jagdeep Dhankhar Leaves Calcutta University Convocation Venue Following Students' Stir

West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar was on Tuesday prevented by students from attending the Calcutta University's annual convocation ceremony at Nazrul Mancha, following which he left the premises. The agitators blocked the governor's way, waved black flags at him and raised ''go back'' slogans. Some of them were seen holding ''No CAA'' and ''No NRC'' posters outside the venue.

Students at the Calcutta University shouted "go back" slogans against Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar and forced him to leave the convocation without even stepping on stage. The 30 odd minutes that the governor spent at the convocation venue were spent inside a guest room back stage with laureate Abhijit Vinayak Banerjee. Governor Dhankhar, as Chancellor of the university was to preside over the convocation.

Bengal-CM Mamata Banerjee led a-massive-protest march against the citizenship-law in the heart of Kolkata and dared the centre to dismiss her government, declaring that the law could be enforced in her state "only over her dead body". Hundreds of her party-leaders and supporters walked with her carrying posters and flags against the controversial law in the first of several-protests over the next three days.
