The leader of Canada's opposition New Democratic Party (NDP), Jagmeet Singh, said on Thursday he was hopeful he could work with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's minority Liberal government. The Liberals and the left-leaning NDP together hold 181 of the 338 seats in the House of Commons elected chamber, more than enough to push through legislation.

Indian-origin Canadian Jagmeet Singh-led New Democratic Party (NDP), which won 24 seats in the general election, is likely to emerge as the "kingmaker" where Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's Liberal Party held onto power in a nail-biting poll, albeit as a weakened minority government. With 24 seats in its kitty, the NDP has lost nearly 50% of the seats it had won in 2015.
