Article 370 was temporary, transitional right from the beginning: JP Nadda

BJP working president JP Nadda on Monday addressed a seminar here on the abrogation of Article 370, which he said was "temporary and transitional" since the beginning. Parliament had in August revoked Article 370 that gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir and also passed the J-K Act 2019, reorganising the state in two Union Territories J-K with Assembly and Ladakh without it.

India received a sharp nudge from chief of the United Nations Human Rights Council on Monday as severe restrictions imposed on Kashmir entered their sixth week. Last month, the Indian government scrapped special privileges of Jammu and Kashmir like the ability to frame its own laws and divided the state into two union territories. Several nations, including the US, have expressed concern over curbs.

The US has said it continues to monitor the situation in J-K closely while raising concern over reports of detentions and continued restrictions in the Valley. The spokesperson added that US "notes the broader-implications of the developments in J-K and potential for increased instability in the region". Trump had meanwhile said that PM Modi had told him that situation was under control in Kashmir.
