Japan's military scrambled Sunday to rescue people trapped by flooding in the aftermath of powerful Typhoon Hagibis, which killed at least eleven people, caused landslides and burst rivers. By Sunday morning, the significantly weakened storm had moved back off land, but it left in its wake a trail of destruction and forced Rugby World Cup organisers to cancel another match.

Tokyo and surrounding areas braced for a powerful typhoon forecast as the worst in six-decades, with streets and trains stations unusually quiet on Saturday as rain poured over the city. Store shelves were bare after people stocked-up on water and food. Nearby beaches had not a surfer in sight, only towering dashing waves. Rugby World Cup matches, concerts and other events have been canceled.
