Kaala first ever Indian film to release in Saudi Arabia

Rajinikanth starrer 'Kaala' became the first Indian film to release in Saudi Arabia, months after the kingdom opened a cinema for the first time in 35 years. The producers of the movie shared a poster with the caption, "only Thalaivar can do this". Notably, 'Black Panther' was the first movie to be screened in Saudi Arabia in 35 years.

Dancing to drum rolls, bursting fire crackers, cutting cakes is how fans of actor Rajinikanth celebrated the release of film Kaala in Tamil Nadu on Thursday. In Chennai and in Mumbai the mood was clearly one of celebration. Additional security was provided by the police at all the several hundred movie theatres where the film is being screened in the state.

Superstar-politician Rajinikanth's film "Kaala" was released across the country today, a day after the Supreme Court refused to stop its screening. Pro-Kannada groups had appealed against the film's release, upset with Rajinikanth over his comments on the Cauvery river dispute between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. Around 600 screens will show Kaala across Tamilnadu and 120 theaters will show Kaala in Chennai and Chengalpet.
