I-T attaches Rs 300-crore Delhi bungalow linked to Kamal Nath's nephew

The Income Tax Department said it has attached Benami assets worth Rs.300-crore bungalow and USD 40 million funds brought from a Mauritius-based entity in connection with its probe against businessman Ratul Puri, nephew of MP CM Kamal Nath, and his father. It said a provisional order of attachment against Puri's has been issued under section-24(3) of the Prohibition of Benami Property Transactions Act, 1988.

A Delhi court reserved the order for August 6 on anticipatory bail plea of Ratul Puri, nephew of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath, in connection with a money laundering case related to the VVIP chopper scam. A man claiming to be a witness appeared before the court saying the Enforcement Directorate had recorded his statement forcefully and urged the court to intervene.

The Enforcement Directorate dismissed before a Delhi-court the allegations of ''political vendetta'' against Ratul Puri, nephew of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath, for being probed in connection with a money laundering case related to AgustaWestland VVIP chopper scam. Puri is an industrialist who is running business and is being probed as he is allegedly guilty of making nefarious payments, ED told the court.
