Anti-superstition bill notified in Karnataka

Over two years after it was passed by the Karnataka legislature, the BS Yediyurappa-led BJP government has finally notified the much-hyped anti-superstition law that aims to prevent and eradicate "inhuman evil practices". Interestingly, the BJP, which was then in the opposition, had expressed strong reservations about the bill, piloted by the Siddaramaiah led Congress government and passed by the state-legislature in November 16 2017.
Mysuru gets first Muslim woman Mayor

Tasneem, the 34-year-old JD(S) corporator, was elected as the first Muslim woman Mayor of Mysuru. She defeated BJP candidate Geetha Yogananda by a margin of 24 votes. "Mysuru is known for cleanliness. Thus, my first priority is to maintain cleanliness and I will work towards retaining the 'Clean City' tag," Tasneem said after being elected the 22nd Mayor of Mysuru.
Siddaramaiah pitches for Lingayath state chief to tackle BJP in north Karnataka

Former-Karnataka-CM Siddaramaiah apprised the Congress top-brass including interim President Sonia Gandhi, senior leader AK Antony and Ahmed Patel about the need of a 'Lingayath' state-chief to tackle BJP in north-Karnataka, sources said. Siddaramaiah met Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi at her residence in New-Delhi. "We need a Lingayath president in Karnataka to lead the party and to tackle BJP in north Karnataka," Siddaramaiah said.
