Pointing to defeat of political leaders who switched sides in assembly elections in Maharashtra and bypolls in some states, senior Congress leader Siddaramaiah on Thursday said ''defectors'' in Karnataka would face similar outcome in the coming byelections leading to resignation of Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa. Mr Yediyurappa had recently said disqualified Congress-JDS MLAs would be given BJP tickets for the bypolls if they wanted.

Calling BS Yediyurappa the ''weakest CM'', senior-Congress-leader Siddaramaiah said that unlike him, he has never indulged in the politics of hatred. "I suggest Mr Yediyurappa should resign and go back. He is the weakest CM. I never acted like him when my government was in power and never indulged in the politics of hatred," Mr Siddaramaiah said while speaking to reporters in Karnataka's Riachur.

Congress supporters came to blows with BJP workers while trying to take away two independent-legislators to the state-assembly ahead of the trust-vote on Tuesday evening, which the Kumaraswamy-government eventually lost. The two-independents had switched sides from the ruling coalition to the BJP earlier this month, reducing it to a minority in the state-assembly and shifting the scales of power in the southern-state yet again.
