In Kathua Rape Case, Notice Issued To Jammu And Kashmir Government

The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Thursday issued notices to the Jammu and Kashmir government and six men convicted in the case of rape and murder of an eight-year-old nomad girl in Kathua on a plea by her father seeking enhanced punishment for them. The court also issued a notice to the accused who was acquitted in the case by a lower court.

The Punjab and Haryana HC will Thursday hear the plea of the father of girl who was raped and murdered in J&K's Kathua last-year, seeking enhancement of the sentence-pronounced by a-trial-court and challenging the acquittal of one of accused. In his petition filed on July-10, eight-year-old girl's father had sought enhancement of the punishment for six-men convicted in the case that triggered outrage nationwide.

"Poetic Justice Must Be Done For Devilish Crime": Court In Kathua Case

The special court which convicted six-people in the rape and murder of an 8-year-old in J-K's Kathua, has termed the crime "devilish and monstrous" and said that it was committed in the most "shameful, inhumane and barbaric manner" for which "poetic justice" needs to be done. The circumstantial evidence led by the prosecution is definite which unerringly point-out towards the guilt of the accused.
