Probe Team Didn't Torture Witnesses In Kathua Case, Says J&K Top Cop

Defending the team that probed the Kathua rape and murder case last year, Jammu and Kashmir police chief Dilbag Singh on Wednesday said no-witnesses were tortured and but the court's order to file a First Information Report against the investigating police officials would be followed. The court order is being examined and all necessary action will be taken, Mr Singh told reporters in Srinagar.

The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Thursday issued notices to the Jammu and Kashmir government and six men convicted in the case of rape and murder of an eight-year-old nomad girl in Kathua on a plea by her father seeking enhanced punishment for them. The court also issued a notice to the accused who was acquitted in the case by a lower court.

The Punjab and Haryana HC will Thursday hear the plea of the father of girl who was raped and murdered in J&K's Kathua last-year, seeking enhancement of the sentence-pronounced by a-trial-court and challenging the acquittal of one of accused. In his petition filed on July-10, eight-year-old girl's father had sought enhancement of the punishment for six-men convicted in the case that triggered outrage nationwide.
