IMD issues heavy rainfall alert for Odisha and Kerala

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that heavy rainfall is likely over Odisha and Kerala on Thursday. The weather forecasting agency also predicted that isolated pockets of Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Assam and Meghalaya are likely to witness heavy downpour throughout the day. The organisation has also advised fishermen not to venture into these areas.

Normalcy Returning To Rain-Hit Kerala, Number Of Deaths Rises To 113

As normalcy was slowly returning to rain-battered Kerala, people have started moving to their homes from relief-camps, even as the toll climbed to 113 on Saturday, with more bodies being retrived from the landslide hit districts of Malappuram and Wayanad. As per the 9-am update, 50-people have so far lost their lives in Malappuram and 12 in Wayanad, two-northern-districts, where 28-people are still missing.

Floods and landslides have killed more than 270 people in India this month, displaced over 10 lakh and inundated thousands of homes across six states, authorities said on Wednesday after two weeks of heavy monsoon rains. The rains from June to September are a lifeline for rural India, delivering some 70% of the country's rainfall, but they also cause death and destruction each year.
