The Centre on Wednesday defended its amendments to the Prevention of Corruption Act mandating its prior nod before proceeding against a public servant, asserting that it was intended to "insulate the innocent bribe-givers from harassment". The Centre has told the top court that the challenge to the constitutional validity of two provisions of a law could not be done in isolation.

Tripura CM Biplab Kumar Deb has stumbled into yet another controversy, this time by passing balloons around while the National Anthem was being played during an-event at Tulakona, about 10km from Agartala, on Wednesday. A video of the incident is being widely shared on the Internet. General rules of conduct require the audience to stand in attention while the National Anthem is being played.

The Shiv Sena has questioned the Centre's response against the Pulwama attack, asking it not to wait till the eve of general elections to act against Pakistan. In an editorial in Sena mouthpiece 'Saamana', the party asked the Centre not to depend on the US and European countries to condemn the attack. It said India has to fight for itself.
