Rare liver surgery saves nine-month old's life

Doctors at the Wockhardt hospital in Mumbai Central performed a liver transplant on nine-month-old Kavya and saved her life. Kavya underwent the surgery, with a part of the liver being donated by his mother on June 14, which lasted for 14 hours. He is claimed to be the youngest infant to go through a successful liver transplant surgery in entire western India.

A 19-year-old man from Kyrgyzstan got a new lease of life after his brother donated a part of his liver at a private hospital in Noida. Taalaibek Alaibek was last year diagnosed with alveolar echinococcosis, a chronic tapeworm infection that grows and spreads in the liver. It is a rare but potentially life-threatening parasitic disease, a doctor said.
