Calls To Trigger Violence Today Centre Warns States Before Counting

There could be attempts to trigger violence during the counting of votes tomorrow for the Lok Sabha elections, the Home Ministry warned today, sending out alerts to chief secretaries and police chiefs of all states. The ministry said it has asked states and union territories to be on guard after "calls given in various quarters" for sparking violence and disrupting counting.

Amid reports of EVM glitches, Delhi recorded 34.48 per cent polling till 1 pm on Sunday, officials said. Voting began at 7 am and is scheduled to go on till 6 pm. President Ram Nath Kovind, Congress president Rahul Gandhi, UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj were among those who cast their vote.

Congress candidate from Madhya Pradesh's Guna Jyotiraditya Scindia, who belongs to the erstwhile Gwalior princely dynasty, owns several properties including a palace that he has inherited. He also owns a BMW car, according to his affidavit filed along nomination papers on Saturday. Jyotiraditya Scindia said that the annual income from his ancestral property is Rs. 467,410. He also owns jewellery worth over 80 lakhs.
