Madras HC allows jailed Saravana Bhavan founder to shift to private hospital

The Madras HC permitted Saravana Bhawan founder Rajagopal, who has been admitted to a government-hospital here after he surrendered to serve life sentence in a-murder-case, to shift to a private-facility for further treatment. The petitioner would have to bear the cost of treatment, the bench said, adding the transfer and treatment would be subject to the compliance of conditions as per the prison manual.

Vaiko Files Plea In Madras High Court To Quash Lower Court Order

MDMK chief Vaiko has moved the Madras High Court, seeking to quash the order of a lower court, which convicted him of sedition in a 2009 case and sentenced him to undergo simple imprisonment for a year. The MDMK leader submitted that as per Article 20(3) of the Constitution, no person accused of any offence shall be compelled to be a witness against himself.

Tamil Nadu's Plea Challenging Green Court's Rs 100 Crore Penalty Rejected

The Madras High Court on Friday dismissed a petition filed by the Tamil Nadu government, challenging the Rs.100-crore penalty imposed on the state by the National Green Tribunal for not cleaning the Buckingham Canal, Adyar and Cooum rivers. The government had challenged the penalty imposed by the National Green Tribunal for its failure to restore the Adyar and Cooum rivers and the Buckingham Canal.
