Govt plans law tweak to curb unnecessary clinical tests

The Union health and family welfare ministry has issued draft amendments to Clinical Establishments Rules, 2012, to regulate medical-diagnostic-laboratories and prevent them from making people undergo unnecessary investigations and diagnostic tests. "Medical tests should normally be undertaken on the advice of a doctor," says the amended draft, which has been put up for public comment before it is notified in 45 days or so.
59,000 students compete for 5,600 medical seats in Maharastra

At least 10 students have applied for every single MBBS and BDS seat in the state this year. Registrations to undergraduate health science courses in Maharashtra ended on July 17 following which applicants were allowed to make payments till July 18. Statistics revealed that more than 59,000 students have registered for 5,600 seats across government-run and private medical and dental institutes.
