Mizoram Guv addresses empty ground amid R-Day boycott call

Mizoram Governor Kummanam Rajasekharan on Saturday addressed an almost-empty ground here on the 70th Republic Day, due to a statewide boycott call given by an umbrella organisation against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill. No member from the general public attended the function, police said adding that only ministers, legislators and top officials were present. Six armed contingents participated in the Republic Day parade, officials said.

Entire north east burning because of Citizenship Bill: Lalduhawma

Zoram Nationalist Party leader Lalduhawma on January-19 said entire north east was "burning" because of the Citizenship Amendment Bill. "If the bill was enacted, India will no-longer-be the place that it used to be....so we want a-secular-government at Centre......., so that this bill was withdrawn or exemption must be given to north east," he said at opposition rally at the Brigade Parade ground.

More Than 150 People Diagnosed With Scrub Typhus In Mizoram

Atleast 152 people have been diagnosed with the scrub typhus disease at Thenzawl town in Serchhip district, Mizoram health department officials said on Wednesday. Scrub typhus, also known as bush typhus, is a disease caused by a bacteria called Orientia tsutsugamushi and the bacteria is carried and spread by mites, they said. The officials said that the scrub typhus outbreak began in November 2018.
