
Gold hits six-month high on growth fears, stock volatility

Gold prices scaled a more than six-month peak on Thursday as worries about a global economic slowdown and volatility in equities boosted safe-haven buying, while a weaker dollar offered support. Spot gold touched its highest since June 15 at $1,290.09, and was trading up 0.3% at $1,288.43 per ounce at 0443 GMT. U.S. gold futures were up about 0.5% at $1,290.20 per ounce.

A 16-year-old boy was kidnapped and murdered in Punjab's Bathinda by a friend and his accomplice, the police said. The accused demanded Rs.2 crore from the boy's family but later reduced it to Rs.3 lakh. A trap was set and they were caught, following which they confessed to slitting the boy's throat and revealed they wanted to make 'easy money'.

Retail inflation cools to 11-month low of 3.69% in August

Retail inflation cooled to an 11-month low of 3.69% in August mainly due to fall in prices of kitchen items, including fruits and vegetables, official data showed. The inflation based on Consumer Price Index stood at 4.17% in July and 3.28% in August 2017. CPI inflation was at 3.58% in October 2017 and remained above RBI's targeted rate of 4% since then.
