Rains pound Kerala again, hamper relief works

After a brief lull, rains started lashing several parts of Kerala since this morning, posing problems to the relief operations undertaken by multiple agencies in the flood and landslides hit regions. However, the water level in the Idukki and Idamalayar reservoirs reduced, bringing some relief, with the authorities saying there was no need for any panic for people living downstream, officials said.

Rajasthan: Monsoon's first phase peters out

The first phase of this monsoon season is considered to be over in Rajasthan as almost all parts of the state continue to observe almost dry conditions for the last-one-week. At the end of the first phase of the onset of monsoon, Bikaner and Bharatpur-divisions have recorded more than normal-rainfall this year. Jodhpur and Ajmer divisions, on the other hand, have recorded less-rainfall comparatively.

Barring a few States, monsoon has been well on course. The monsoon has covered the entire country, reaching Sriganganagar in western Rajasthan — its last outpost — a fortnight ahead of schedule, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said. The IMD’s Chief Forecaster in Pune, D.S. Pai, said the monsoon’s journey across the country before time was not unusual.
