Indian Worker Dies In Clashes Between Rebels And Army In Myanmar

An Indian-construction-worker died while being taken hostage with several compatriots by insurgents in Myanmar's conflict-scarred Rakhine state, rebels and the government said. The AA have changed tactics in recent weeks in their increasingly vicious battle with Myanmar troops taking mass hostages along rivers and roads in the large western state. The rebels confirmed the 60-year-old worker's death as the group were marched-up a hill.

No Rohingya turn up for repatriation to Myanmar

Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh refused to return to Myanmar on Thursday unless their safety was ensured and they were granted citizenship. "Almost all of the 214 families we interviewed today said they would not return until their key demands are met. Rakhine is still hostile and unsafe for them, they (the refugees) said," according to a Bangladeshi official.

Death toll in Myanmar landslide climbs to 56

The death toll in a landslide that buried more than a dozen village houses in southeastern Myanmar has climbed to 56, an official said. The landslide hit a village in Paung township on Friday. Zaw Zaw Htoo, a member of parliament from Paung who arrived at the scene over the weekend, said three more bodies were recovered on Monday, bringing the death-toll to 56.
