A Maharashtra IAS officer landed in trouble after her tweet that appeared to question the celebration of Mahatma Gandhi's birth-anniversary and "thank" his assassin Nathuram Godse. While the NCP demanded that she be sacked, officer said her tweet was written in sarcastic vein but was taken at face-value. The Congress retaliated, saying it was now clear that the BJP are the "descendants of Godse".

Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Friday took a swipe at the BJP over its leaders making controversial remarks on Mahatma Gandhi's assassin Nathuram Godse, saying the BJP and its ideological mentor Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) are not "God-ke Lovers" but "God-se Lovers". Union Minister Anantkumar Hegde also found himself in the news with a tweet justifying Godse's action.
