Green Laws Must For Railway Stations: National Green Tribunal

Railway stations across the country are required to obtain necessary environmental permissions as several polluting activities take place there, the National Green Tribunal has said. A bench headed by NGT Chairperson Justice Adarsh Kumar Goel said there can be no dispute about the proposition that the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986 also applies to major railway stations.

The NGT recommended to the Centre that a stipend or compensation be given to daily-wage labourers who have become unemployed as a result of the ban on construction activities to bring down the severe pollution-levels in Delhi. The tribunal said deterioration in air-quality has not been caused in a-single-day but is the result of continuous negligence and apathy of statutory authorities in law enforcement.
Green Panel Summons Officials Of Delhi Government, Centre Over Pollution

Taking cognisance of high-pollution-levels in Delhi, the National Green Tribunal said that the current situation is not the creation of one-day but a result of continuous negligence and apathy of statutory authorities in law-enforcement. The bench of NGT chairperson Justice AK Goel asked officials from the Delhi-government, CPCB, DPCC and Ministry of Environment and Forests to appear before it at 10:30-am on Tuesday.
