Even a drop of pollution in Ganga is a matter of concern and the attitude of all authorities should be stringent to protect the river, the NGT has said while seeking concrete action plan on the issue. The tribunal also asked the concerned states to take the matter seriously and assist the bench with precise information either through senior officers or through counsel.

Film and television personalities should be roped in to raise awareness on pollution in the Yamuna River and spread the message that idol immersion is leading to "unacceptably high level of toxicity" in the water, a committee appointed by the National Green Tribunal said. The panel also said these celebrities can spread the message that "only clay idols without paint need to be used".

States Asked To Furnish Rs 10 Crore Each As Yamuna Cleaning Guarantee

The National Green Tribunal Tuesday expressed dissatisfaction over the cleaning of river Yamuna and directed Delhi, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh governments to submit a performance guarantee of Rs.10-crore each within a month. A bench headed by NGT chairperson Justice Adarsh Kumar Goel directed the state governments to furnish a performance guarantee with the CPCB to ensure there was no further lapse in this regard.
