Centre Extends Deadline To Update Assam Citizens' List NRC To July 31

The centre has extended the deadline to complete the ongoing exercise for updating the NRC in Assam by one-more-month to July-30. The process had been extended in December last year by six-months to June-30. In a notification, the Registrar General of India said the decision was taken as the exercise launched to identify legal-residents of Assam, could not be completed within the current deadline.

Two Assam Officials Caught Taking Bribe To Include Name In Citizenship List

The Assam police has arrested two NRC officials on charges of accepting bribe to include names in the NRC draft. Ms Dutta, a resident of Ananda Nagar area of the city, had filed another FIR against the Assistant Local Registrar of Citizen Registration Rahul Parashar, 27, of the same NRC Sewa Kendra who was also arrested for his alleged complicity with the other official.

1,000 Tribunals To Be Set Up In Assam For Citizen List Appeals: Officials

The Centre will help the Assam government in setting up 1,000 foreigners tribunals by July 31 when the final list of National Register of Citizens (NRC) will be published, officials said Sunday. The central government is also in the process of giving its approval to the state government's proposal to set up e-Foreigners Tribunals for those who were declared illegal immigrants.
