Nepali Mountaineer Becomes World's Newest Fastest Climber

Nirmal Purja, a 36-year-old Nepali mountaineer has become the world's fastest climber after scaling the world's 14 highest peaks in a record time of over six months. Purja scaled Mount Shishapangma, the top of the 14th mountain, on Tuesday. Purja, who previously served as a British Marine, began his climbing career when he walked to Everest base camp in 2012.

China Promises $492 Million-Aid To Nepal For Development Projects

Chinese President Xi Jinping has said that China will provide Nepalese Rs. 56-billion or $492-million assistance to Kathmandu over the next two years to help Nepal's development programmes as the two countries inked 20 agreements on Sunday to bolster their bilateral ties. "The meeting between President Xi and Prime Minister Oli focused on all aspects of Nepal-China relations," local media quoted officials as saying.

Everest Region Bans Single-Use Plastic To Reduce Waste On Mountains

Single-use plastics have been banned in the Everest region to reduce the vast amounts of waste left by trekkers and mountaineers, Nepali authorities said. In addition to seeing a record number of climbers this year, a government-led cleaning initiative on Everest the world's highest mountain also collected over 10 tonnes of trash. The region receives over 50,000 tourists every year, including climbers and trekkers.
