NIA Court Rejects Pragya's Plea For Exemption From Daily Appearance

A special NIA court in Mumbai has rejected BJP MP Sadhvi Pragya's application for a permanent exemption from attending the court once a week in the 2008 Malegaon blast case. Pragya had told the court that she has to attend the Parliament on a day-to-day basis as she is an MP. However, the court gave her an exemption for today.

Over a month after the special National Investigation Agency (NIA) court in Mumbai directed all the accused on trial in the 2008 Malegaon blast case to remain present once a week, 'accused no 1' (A1), Bhopal BJP MP, Pragya Singh Thakur appeared before the court today. Thakur had initially cited election preparations and later health reasons for not appearing.

The BJP's Pragya Thakur and six-other accused in 2008 Malegaon blast have been told to be present before the court at least once a week for the proceedings of the case, a-special-court in Mumbai said today. The court's remarks come on a day the saffron-clad politician is in the eye of a raging row over her remarks on Nathuram Ghodse who assassinated Mahatma Gandhi.
