NIA Court Rejects Plea Seeking to Bar Pragya From Contesting Poll

A special NIA court in Mumbai on Wednesday rejected the application filed by the father of one of the victims of the 2008 Malegaon blast case seeking to bar BJP leader Pragya Singh Thakur from contesting the Lok Sabha election. Malegaon blast accused Thakur, who is currently out on bail, is contesting the Lok Sabha poll from Bhopal in MP on the BJP's ticket.

Unfazed by the political controversy stirred by her remarks on late ATS chief Hemant Karkare, Sadhvi Pragya Bharti Thakur told ET that the BJP giving her a ticket to contest was the biggest "clean chit" for her. While the late Maharashtra ATS chief had named her in the first chargesheet, the National Investigation Agency dropped her name in May 2016 through a supplementary chargesheet.
